Theravance Biopharma was started in June 2014 as a spin-off from Theravance Inc. This was done to create an agile entity which was focused on providing drugs for unmet medical needs. Theravance looked to set up international operations from Dublin to provide a platform from which to manage their commercial interests outside of the US.
Initially, Theravance Biopharma sought an alliance management leader to be based from Dublin. However, as we began to understand the Theravance business through close partnership with the leadership, we suggested that they gain a higher level leader who would not only manage the strategic alliances but build the network globally and add value commercially as a key negotiator for marketed products.
We performed a deep search of the market to include Irish based talent and Irish talent working abroad, which provided Theravance Biopharma with a detailed map of the commercial pharmaceutical talent that could be targeted. We then engaged with people at multiple levels, giving Theravance the freedom to select the right level of seniority and mix of experience they needed.
We managed to secure a seasoned executive with global pharma experience within large multinational and start-up ventures. This executive could provide the expertise and guidance needed at a local level to build the footprint in Dublin, whilst also providing expertise at global leadership level.
