Last Thursday night Accreate hosted the third of its “Accreate Invites” series for 2018. This intimate evening, aimed at affording HR leaders the opportunity to network in a confidential and relaxed environment. The cohort comprised HR leads from various industries and sectors to reflect and share insights around gender diversity; the challenges and opportunities.

The evening kicked off with a private tour by the artist of a beautiful and unique exhibition at the Little Museum of Dublin entitled “What’s she doing here?”, which salutes trailblazing females excelling in industries traditionally dominated by men. “What’s she doing here?” features photographs of women at work by Beta Bajgartova, from her widely acclaimed book, “A Woman’s Work” and Beta gave our group first hand insight into her work, most importantly, the strength and stories behind the women she featured.

Beta’s images speak strongly to gender diversity in the workplace and sparked some lively dinner conversation. We exchanged views and insights on mechanisms and programs to foster diversity in the existing leadership teams as well as in talent pipelines; we discussed the challenge of creating a gender balance in tech companies where the female talent pool just isn’t available to the extent it needs to be and there were some interesting workarounds floated; paternity and maternity policies were also discussed and compared with a consensus that paternity allowances in particular need drastic improvement.

Throw in a debate on Friday’s referendum for women in Ireland and the evening was complete!

Looking forward to the next Accreate Invites already and engaging with more incredible thought leaders!
